Friction welding is a method of press welding, utilizing heat generated by workpiece rotation to bring joint ends into a thermoplastic state, followed by rapid upsetting to complete the weld. Principle of friction welding:
Friction welding is a pressure welding method that uses heat generated by mutual friction in relative rotational motion when the workpiece contacts the end surface, so that the end reaches the thermoplastic state, and then quickly upsets to complete the welding. As the core equipment for this process, Rotary Friction Welding Machine realizes the most common welding form for circular cross-section workpieces: first make one workpiece rotate at a high speed about the centerline, and then apply axial pressure to start friction heating. When the specified friction welding time or the specified amount of friction deformation is reached, that is, when the joint is heated to the welding temperature, the workpiece rotation is immediately stopped, and a greater axial pressure is applied to perform upsetting welding. Usually, the entire welding process only takes a few seconds.
Advantages of friction welding
The welding quality is good and stable. The rejection rate is about 0.01%, and the rejection rate of flash butt welding is 10%-1.4%.
High welding productivity.
The production cost is low. With reasonable structural design and low power configuration, the equipment saves plenty of electric energy during short welding cycles. Compared with flash welding, it can save about 80-90% of electric energy. In addition, the workpiece requires only a small welding margin, with no special processing and cleaning before welding. Most welding flash can be reserved as needed, and no filling materials or shielding gas are required. Adopting this processing mode can reduce production costs by about 30% compared with arc welding.
